Dog blogging: I'm going to give it a shot.

This all started with my cat. She stopped eating and was diagnosed with kidney failure, oh, one week before the big pet food recall was announced in 2007. I had been feeling guilty all week worrying that I had dropped an Advil on the floor, and my houseplants were banished to the porch. She never ate that kind of stuff any way. She was 11 which is young for Chronic Renal Failure, but not unreasonably so. When the announcement was made I checked the uneaten food I had bought a three weeks earlier, and sure enough it was in the recall.

Angry about the toxic pet food, but more digging for a prognosis for the kitty's Renal Failure I started Googleing. Dr. Patty Khuly's blog Dolittler popped up right at the top. Her blog is a great blend of animal health info. and a look into the life of a busy veterinarian. I was hooked. From there I clicked on links to other bloggers on her page, and their pages. Over the years I have collected a group of favorite blogs I follow. Well, more like stalk, because I haven't been participating. They are not all veterinarian related. Some are training, rescue, breeding and just cute. Probably 90% of them are focused mainly on dogs. It occurred to me recently that I had this weird one sided interaction with the bloggers. If I am going to spend time reading and learning from them, then it may be healthier to interact more like I would in a face to face meeting. I am not an expert in anything involving dogs, I just want to be join the conversation.

Four years later my kitty is 15. She recovered well from the Acute Renal Failure caused by the food and settled in to mild CRF. I'm not having to do anything for her renal failure right now other than periodic blood work. She's an excellent dog trainer herself, although probably wondering why she has to live with so many of them.
